Crossing 100 Hearts: A Milestone of Healing on the Street

On a humid Saturday morning, the Hope on Wheels mobile clinic quietly rolled into Sadarghat its presence now familiar to many of the street-connected children who call the terminal their temporary home.
Later that afternoon, it made its second stop at Kamalapur Railway Station. By the end of the day, something profound had happened: we had officially reached our 100th patient. One hundred young lives. One hundred moments of being seen, heard, and treated with dignity. This was not just a number. It was a milestone built on medicine, trust, and compassion. Our 5th and 6th camps, held on 12 April 2025, marked a significant turning point. With the support of volunteer doctors and field staff, children from Sadarghat, Kamalapur, and LEEDO Peace Home came forward to receive medical checkups, medicine, and guidance. A total of 104 patients were treated. The majority were between the ages of 8 and 12, with boys making up 80% of the attendees. Many came barefoot. Some came with mothers. All came with stories etched into their skin. The most common health complaints included:
  • Skin diseases
  • Cough and fever
  • Body ache
  • Intestinal worm infections (deworming tablets were distributed)
  • Minor wounds, dog bites, and muscle pain
Each child received free medical treatment and medicine, and perhaps more importantly — respect. The response was deeply moving. Over 95% of the children said they were satisfied with their time spent with the doctor. When asked what they liked most, the overwhelming response was: “The checkup, the medicine, and the way the doctor spoke to me.” One caregiver from LEEDO shared: “Most of these children have never received any consistent medical care. For many, this camp was their first experience of being treated with both medical skill and human kindness.” Hope on Wheels is more than a mobile clinic. It is a moving symbol of dignity — of care showing up in the very places society has forgotten. It does not wait in hospitals. It doesn’t demand appointments. It rolls through stations, markets, alleys, and shelters with one goal: to bring healing directly to those most in need. Reaching 100 children is a milestone — but we know it’s only the beginning. The streets of Dhaka are home to thousands more who have never seen a doctor or held a packet of clean medicine in their hands. With each camp, we aim to close that gap, to turn neglect into nurture. We are not just counting patients. We are counting stories, steps toward healing, and seeds of hope. Thank you to our volunteer doctors, partners at LEEDO, and every supporter who helps keep these wheels in motion. The next stop is always ahead. And with your help, we’ll get there
