Global Street Connect recently organized a hands-on workshop on “Stop the Bleed”, conducted by Dr. Sharif Haider, in collaboration with LEEDO (Local Education and Economic Development Organization). Held on 27 January at the Leedo Peace Home, the session was designed to equip young volunteers — many of them street-connected children — with critical first-aid skills to respond to bleeding injuries in emergency situations.
Through interactive training and practical demonstrations, the participants learned how to recognize life-threatening bleeding, apply pressure, elevate injured limbs, pack wounds, and, if necessary, apply makeshift tourniquets using cloth or belts. These essential techniques can mean the difference between life and death — especially for vulnerable children who often face injuries without immediate access to medical care.
To strengthen their readiness, Global Street Connect donated first aid kits to the volunteers — giving them not just knowledge, but the tools to act.
This workshop is part of a growing effort to promote health literacy and emergency preparedness among street-connected youth in Dhaka. It builds on the belief that everyone — regardless of where they sleep at night — deserves the power to protect their own life and the lives of others.
Because saving lives doesn’t always require a medical degree — just the courage to act, and the knowledge of what to do.
Stay tuned for more health literacy initiatives as Global Street Connect continues to train and empower the unsung heroes of our city’s streets.
