Taking Control: An Introduction to Anger Management
October 23 @ 5:00 pm - 8:00 pm
About the Course
You may notice that you react more strongly than you’d like when things are frustrating or stressful. Or you may realize that anger is affecting your relationships at home, at work, or in social situations. Or you may often feel irritable, resentful, or emotionally overwhelmed. Or you may have been told by others that your anger is a concern. Or you may simply be curious about anger and want to build greater emotional self-awareness and resilience. Yes, if any of these apply to you, this basic anger management course is for you.
This three-hour beginner course gives you a practical, hands-on way to learn about anger management. Instead of just covering theory, you’ll get simple techniques you can use right away to understand, interrupt, and redirect anger in your daily life.
The course is live and interactive on Microsoft Teams, creating a supportive online space where you can join in, practise skills as you learn, and connect with others who have similar goals. During the three hours, you’ll follow a step-by-step program that starts with understanding anger and how it affects your body and actions, then moves on to practising proven strategies to manage it better.
You will explore why anger arises, learn to spot your personal triggers early, and practise proven strategies drawn from cognitive behavioural approaches, mindfulness, and communication skills.
By the end of the session, you will feel more confident, have practised real tools, and know exactly what to do the next time anger starts to rise.
Who Is This Course For?
This course is for any adult who feels that anger, whether expressed openly or kept inside, is affecting their relationships, work, or wellbeing. You do not need a diagnosis or to be in crisis to benefit.
Everyone is welcome, no matter your background or experience. You do not need any previous therapy, counselling, or anger management training to join.
What to Expect on This Course
The session lasts three hours and includes a short break in the middle. It is live, led by a facilitator, and designed for participation. You will not be watching a pre-recorded video. Active involvement is important, and while everyone is encouraged to join discussions and exercises.
Full training dates
29 May, 5 p.m.
Entry criteria
This course is open to all adults (18 and over) who meet the following requirements:
Language: Participants must be able to read and understand English at a level sufficient to understand instructions and read training materials.
Technology: Participants should have a device like a laptop, desktop, or tablet with a working camera and microphone, along with a reliable internet connection that can support a three-hour video session. The session will be held on Microsoft Teams, so participants need to ensure that they have access to Teams beforehand – a free account will do the trick!
Camera: Participants must keep their cameras on during the session. It’s not about surveillance; rather, it’s about creating a warm and engaging environment where everyone feels connected. When facilitators and participants can see each other, it helps build trust and a sense of community, which are so important for effective group learning. Additionally, the facilitator needs to observe how participants perform certain anger management techniques to ensure they are learning them appropriately to combat anger.
