Our Story

We dream of a Bangladesh where every child can enjoy good health, feel safe, and be inspired to dream big. We want children to walk confidently and feel in control of their lives. Care shouldn’t just be available in hospitals, clinics, and residential settings; it should reach those who need it most, wherever they are. By working together – combining frontline services with advocacy, evidence, and local leadership – Global Street Connect aims to turn urgent support into lasting change. Our goal is to ensure that care, protection, and opportunity become the norm, not rare exceptions.

Strategic Leadership

Dr. Hasan Reza, social work professor at Indiana University, USA, has long been concerned about the abuse and exploitation of street-connected children in his native country, Bangladesh. Two decades ago, he began to do research on these children, and was shocked at the depth of trauma, violence, deprivation, and abuse that these children were experiencing. It is his dream that we support these children to improve the quality of their lives.

AZ Dipu with Yellow Rose Media was a filmmaker has over decades of experience in documentary making, digital storytelling, and commercialization. He partnered with Dr. Reza to create the film, Green Foot Soldiers: Homeless Children and Plastic World. During his months of experience of working with street-connected children Dipu was horrified witnessing the exclusion and victimization of these children. He joined the team and invested in changing children’s lives.

Dr Sharif Haider is an award-winning researcher, academic, consultant and mental health professional, and holds licenses to practice from various health and social care regulatory bodies in the UK. He worked in both Children and Adult services, started as a frontline practitioner and gradually became a strategic leader in English health and local government. Sharif is also a senior fellow of the Higher Education Academy. His research concentrates on digital health and social care, global mental health, and street-connected children. He has contributed to numerous academic and professional journals.

Dr. Syed Nazin Morshed, pediatrician, and a researcher at International Centre for Diarrheal Disease Research, Bangladesh (ICDDR,B). While completing a thesis on the health-seeking behavior of street-connected children, Dr. Nazin witnessed first-hand the violence and abuse perpetrated against these children and their inability to access even basic healthcare. Dr. Nazin promised himself to develop a health service model for them in which the providers will reach out to children on the street.

Dr. Susan Glassburn was a colleague and co-professor on study abroad courses with Dr. Reza’s, and observed the plight of street-connected children in India and asked to support the organization as treasurer.

The Global Street Connect was born out of the collective desire to address the disparities children face due to socioeconomic factors and systemic exclusion. We are passionate professionals who believe in the power of advocacy, innovation, and collaboration to change lives for the better. With years of experience in the field and a deep understanding of local contexts, we work in partnership with communities, governments, and other organizations to maximize our impact.
