July 23, 2025

Global Street Connect and Bangladesh Medical University to Co-Host Vital Public Health Seminar: “Vulnerability in Childhood and Vulnerable Children”

DHAKA, Bangladesh – Global Street Connect and Bangladesh Medical University (BMU) are pleased to announce a pivotal public health seminar, “Vulnerability in Childhood and Vulnerable Children,” to be held on July 23, 2025. This collaborative event aims to unite medical experts, researchers, practitioners, and students to address the critical health inequities faced by street-connected and marginalized children in Bangladesh.

This essential dialogue will focus on transforming clinical and public health approaches to better prevent, identify, and respond to the trauma and violence affecting this vulnerable population.

Event Focus: Bridging Medical Practice and Child Protection
The seminar will center on key, actionable questions:

Health Consequences of Violence: Understanding the long-term physical and mental health outcomes of childhood adversity.
The Role of Healthcare Systems: Exploring how medical professionals and clinics can serve as proactive safe havens and effective referral points.
Trauma-Informed Care: Defining practical steps for medical professionals to provide care that acknowledges trauma without causing re-traumatization.
Data-Driven Advocacy: Leveraging field research to inform stronger health policies and clinical training.

Distinguished Speakers Include:

Professor Dr. Md. Shahinul Alam, Vice Chancellor of BMU, who will deliver the inaugural address.
Professor Dr. Md. Mujibur Rahman Hawlader, Pro-Vice Chancellor (R&D) of BMU, who will chair the session.
Dr. Hasan Reza (Global Street Connect / Indiana University), presenting groundbreaking national research on the prevalence of violence against children in street situations.
Dr. Sharif Haider (The Open University, UK), an expert on trauma and mental health, who will explain the science of Adverse Childhood Experiences (ACEs) and frameworks for integrated care.

Why Attend?
Healthcare is often the first formal system a vulnerable child encounters. This seminar is a crucial step toward ensuring that encounter is protective, healing, and a gateway to support. Attendees will gain evidence-based insights from leading national and international experts, practical frameworks for implementing trauma-informed care, networking opportunities with peers across research, practice, and advocacy, and a chance to contribute to shaping the future of child-sensitive healthcare in Bangladesh.
